YW Camp 2013 - Stand Ye in Holy Places

~ Leader's Secret Sister Gift  #1 ~
Determined to use stuff already in my studio and refrain from purchasing any more supplies . . . . this is what emerged . . .

Each page lay-out of this 4" x 4" book incorporates quotes I found that coincide with the daily themes/devotionals being presented at camp.  (More or less)

Quote inside the vellum envelope reads:

"Jesus Christ is our rock.  He is the foundation of our faith, and He supports us as we choose to follow Him. With Christ in their lives, our youth will do more good than they could ever imagine.  They can establish "Holy Place" the world over."   ~ Brother David L. Beck, (Young Men General President)

Quote inside the vellum envelope reads:

"As we come unto Christ and journey to higher grounds, we will desire to spend more time in His temples, because the temples represent higher ground, sacred ground." ~ Joseph B. Wirthlin

Quote folded around reads:

"The temple is concerned with things of immortality.  It is a bridge between this life and the next.  All of the ordinances that take place in the house of the Lord are expressions of our belief in the immortality of the human soul."     ~ Gordon B. Hinckley

Quote reads:

"Music is truly the universal language, and when it is excellently expressed how deeply it moves our souls."
~ President David O. McKay, in Conference Report, Apr 1945, 119

Quote inside red vellum envelope:

"Truly there is nothing more vital to our success and our happiness here in mortality than learning to hear the voice of the Spirit, for it is the Spirit who reveals to us our identity - which isn't just who we are, but who we have always been.  And when we know, our lives take on a purpose so stunning that we are changed forever."
~ Sheri Dew, "No Doubt About It", p 36

PIT Challenge #2

I did not explain before, I have been participating in a "Challenge" group at Picture In Time - Scrapbook Store located in Fleming Island, FL.  We meet once a month and are given a "kit" or bag of items that we are to make anything with.  I forgot to take a picture of the items we received for Challenge #2.  It consisted of a pack of decorative scrapbook paper, plastic adhesive letters and some other little embellishments.  Below is one of the two items I made.  This was constructed from an idea that I found on Pinterest.

Instructions can be found @ http://itsdoable.squarespace.com/blog/2012/1/23/its-doablethe-flower-wall-art.html#comments

No Soliciting

I have wanted to create or purchase a "NO SOLICITING" sign for the front door of my home.  There always seems to be unusual amount of people knocking on my door to sell/promote/distribute "things".  So, I finally took a moment with my Silhouette Cameo to create this little beauty after a creepy kind of guy wanted to "clean my floors".

I must admit, though, I still had someone knock on my door to invite me a local church pancake breakfast.  I'm thinking "really?"   But, I was nice and just said thank you.  I really need to rethink my strategy.

PIT Challenge #1

Each participate was given a packet of assorted materials and embellishments.  Some were a little different but generally the same.  Our instructions are to use at least one element of each "type" of embellishment to make ANYTHING we want.
I decided to make a 'guest' book.  A guest book is a fun way to greet friends and family who may visit you for a few days or even just for dinner.

I cut the clip board in half.  Spray painted it brown and inked the edges to give it an "aged" look.
Using old graph paper, parchment papter, and other types of scrap paper I had around, I created the pages.  I incorporated the embellishments provided in the packet, stamps, stickers along with other supplies I had from previous projects.

Those "3" words

There comes a time in most of our lives when we know the inevitable will occur.  For some, it happens sooner than later.  But still, the timing is never right.  What three words am I referring???

SOMEONE YOUR AGE!!!

Ouch!!! For the majority of my life I have been the youngest.  I grew up being not only the youngest in my family,  I managed to be the youngest kid in the neighborhood, one of the youngest in my graduating class, youngest to hold leadership positions in church organizations and for many years the youngest person in my office.  I remember always feeling a bit ostracised because my younger self did not exemplify the wisdom and experience of my older counterparts.  But now, here I am.  My older self and the realization of it all dropped kicked me with those three words.

Now that I have peeled myself off the floor and fully recovered, I realize I am really not THAT old.  I've got lots of learning to do.  I can't even imagine what this next phase of life has in store. I am only hoping to remain teachable enough to continue to learn and grow having a BLAST while doing it.

So, you PYT at the make-up store . . . and the one at the camera counter . . . and the other guy . . . time "will take you there", too!
